Have you ever gotten the urge to jump into a commission-based sales job? Many people think about it, but they end up not going through with the decision because of uncertainty. They might be unsure whether they’re cut out for the job, or they’re scared of how their life might change if they take the plunge.
The truth is that a life a career in sales isn’t for everyone. In fact, some people should not be anywhere near this line of work! For those in the industry, however, a job in sales is something that you can truly count on to get what you want and where you want to go.
But how do you know if you’re meant to go down this path? If any of these ten signs resonate with you, you just might be ready for the sales world.
One sign that sales is for you is if you talk to whoever is around you when you’re out running errands or getting a bite to eat. It means you’re not scared of random conversation, which is something you can capitalize on in sales.
When you dive into the sales world, almost all of the people you deal with will be strangers. If you have the natural gift to hold conversations organically, your prospects will see it as authenticity.
Being in a commission-only sales job is as risky as it gets. You’re competing for your livelihood and betting that you can close a sale better than your competition.
That’s why having a competitive mentality will take you far in sales. It means you thrive on high stakes and pressure, which will give you a good chance of closing deals.
It doesn’t matter where your skill level is at. There will always be someone selling more than you—at least in the beginning. Let those people give you guidance and direction.
Learn from them, listen to them, mimic what they do. If you have a delicate ego and think you know it all, you will not make it in sales. You must be coachable and be willing to learn.
Are you able to wake up early? Maybe even start your day with a workout? Do you go hard all day, only to realize at 4:00 pm that you haven’t even taken a break?
This is a rare gift you need to apply to sales! Other people may have the help of caffeine or just be plain gifted, but either way, being high-energy is a good sign that sales is right for you. Energetic people typically sell the most and do better than their competitors.
If you have mastered the art of not taking anything personally, sales is for you. Rejection is just a part of the game. You’re not going to sell 100% of your product or service. It’s never been done. You can’t please everyone.
If you don’t get discouraged easily—-if hearing “No” motivates you to work harder, make more calls, follow up on leads, and revisit old leads in your pipeline—then you need to get into sales!
Are you that person who gets work done when it needs to get done? When people are in a jam, are you always the one to come through and work it out?
If this sounds like you, you will do amazing in sales! Sales is finding people’s pain and providing them with a solution. After all, they have a problem they don’t want, and they need a solution they don’t have. You enter here with your solution to ease their pain.
Good salespeople know what’s necessary to make a client happy and close a sale. Instead of being too rigid and sticking to a specific set of rules, they can easily adapt to any situation because they don’t over-analyze.
There is no one perfect approach to close with your prospects. If you know how to think on your feet, make good decisions, and take appropriate action, you might just be perfect for a career in sales.
Sales can be like a drug. If you are the type of person who develops habits because of dopamine highs, sales might be a great and healthy outlet for you. For example, if you are addicted to gambling, working out, traveling, or whatever else, you most likely will excel in sales.
The close of a sale is a common addiction, and it’s a healthy one that will pay off big time. If you have an unhealthy addiction such as drinking or drugs, sales can be a rewarding escape. Change your life and get addicted to the close!
Do you think of yourself as a bit of a messenger? Do you love to help people and introduce them to others that might help them in their business life?
If you love to network and always seem to have the connections when people need them, you need to put that into action to get yourself deals and make that commission!
Money sure does buy happiness. It lets you buy options. It allows you to take whatever days off you want without having to “bank holiday days.” With sales, you have the opportunity to make all the money you want. There are no limits.
The next time you see that couple walking into that high-end restaurant after valeting their Maserati, chances are they are in sales. If this is one of your dreams, you can make it a reality with sales.
You’re probably here reading this because you’re not currently in a state of financial freedom, and you are curious about this abundant world of sales. If that’s an accurate assessment, your next step should be to figure out what you would be strong at selling.
It doesn’t matter what it is. If you love and believe in your product, and if there is a real need for it, you can be successful.
Take a shot at it. Be open to getting yourself a business coach or a mentor. There are many ways you can use your potential and turn it into a lucrative career. Now that you know what type of a person it takes to be successful at sales, you’re one step closer to making your goals a reality.
