Who Can Scale My Sales Team

At The Sales Connection, we help our clients create and scale their sales teams. We know what it takes to build an effective team of high-performers. We know where to find them. We know what goes into building a world-class culture.

We also appreciate what doesn’t work and the common mistakes people make.

So before we go any further, let’s cover some of the foundations…

A high-performing sales team constantly grows.

How Do You Scale Sales?

You’ve decided you want to scale your sales team… but how do you scale sales exactly? It’s different for every business. Each one is unique. Your sales team is unique. The only thing that matters is focusing on what you need.

However, that isn’t to say there aren’t some guidelines (which we share soon)...

The main thing is to have a plan, though. You cannot “wing” sales growth. It doesn’t just happen. It takes a clear plan with a clear vision and a committed team behind it.

If you boil down sales growth to anything, it’s this.

What Does Scaling a Sales Team Mean?

Before we get into what to do and how to do it… let’s focus a little on your current sales team.

As with any team, it’s the people inside that matter. They need the right skills, sure, but they also need the “right” values, habits, and personality. We dive into this in greater detail in How To Build a Sales Culture.

Make sure you study this in full.

A large part of sales growth centers around your culture.

Scaling your sales means scaling your sales team. It means finding more of the “right” people. It means creating the right environment for those people to thrive. Again, this doesn’t just happen. It requires someone (ie: YOU) to take charge and lead from the front.

This is how…

How Do You Scale a Sales Team

Having worked with many happy clients—and after building our own high-performing sales team—we know this process works.

1: Develop Clear (and proven) Sales Systems and Processes

The first step in your journey is to analyze what currently works (and doesn’t).

Dive into your current sales process and figure out:

  • What works well
  • What doesn’t work
  • Who’s performing
  • Why these people are performing so well
  • The processes that help you thrive
  • The gaps in the system that holds you back

I won’t lie, this part of the journey can take some time—which is why you’re asking that question: who can scale my sales team?!?!

You likely don’t have the time to do this. Don’t worry, we’ll share an alternative soon.

The point here is you need to not only have a clear plan and vision but effective systems/processes.

If you don’t have these, now is the time to create them.

If you do, now is the time to optimize them!

You cannot scale your sales team until you get these pieces in place.

2: Get Clear on The Activities Your Salespeople NEED To do

The worst thing you can do is overwhelm your salespeople with too many tasks. The problem is, that’s exactly what a fast-growing business does. In the beginning, this is fine. You have a lean sales team. Everyone’s on the same page.

That’s about to change as you bring new team members on board.

Each person needs to know what they need to do.

Unless you’re clear on each person’s tasks, you’re in trouble!

3: Choose The Right CRM System For Your Sales Team

Next up is to find the right CRM system for you, your growing team, and your business. There are many to choose from. Despite what some article says, there’s no perfect solution.

But there likely is the perfect solution for you.

Yet it’s unlikely you know what that is.

You have to go out there and find it. Then, you need to train your sales team on how to use it!

Once more, this is easier said than done (which is why you’re asking: who can scale my sales team???)

4: Optimize, Optimize, Optimize!!

At this stage, you’re building momentum. It feels great. Lots of growth. Lots of opportunities. Lots of new team members coming in and smashing it. Some feel this is the time to slow down. It isn’t!!

Now is the period to dive back into your systems, processes, everything… and optimize it all!!

This journey doesn’t end. What works today may not work tomorrow. No matter how well you’re doing, there’s always room for improvement. This is the mindset you need. Ultimately, this is why our clients hire us because we never let up or take a backward step.

5: Trust in The Process

Finally, you need to trust in this process. It takes time to scale a sales team. You’ll enjoy good periods. Yet you also experience bad ones. There are obstacles. There are barriers. You’ll hire some great salespeople but also a few bad apples.

You cannot avoid this.

All you can do is trust in the process and keep going.

This is why our clients hire us. We know the process. We know what to expect. We keep our cool when many people don’t. So if you’re unsure about going through this journey on your own, don’t be. There’s help at hand 😎
