We’re The Sales Connection, and what we do best is sales!
This looks different from situation to situation. Not only do we build successful sales teams for clients, but also train individual salespeople to go above and beyond.
If you’re reading this, it’s likely you’re here for the latter.
With this in mind, you may like to see if working for us is the next step you need…
The first answer you may not want to hear is that there isn’t any best industry for sales.
What’s in demand today may not be in demand tomorrow. Trends change. Markets do, too!!
As an individual, you bring something unique to the table. You have a set of skills. Some of these skills are better suited for some industries than others. Nothing we share in this article can change that.
YOU are the only person that can take charge of your career.
You need to align your skills with where they’re most needed.
This is another answer you may not want to hear… because what’s in demand right now isn’t the point.
Trends change.
Demands change.
But what doesn’t change are the fundamental rules of sales.
This is our focus when we work with a new salesperson.
We strive to give you the tools and training you need to thrive (whatever industry you’re in).
So before you read on, make sure you study:
With this in mind, let’s share a few industries (and roles) that are often amongst the best paying.
What are the top sales jobs? Start here…
Although before you do, there are two things you need to know:
We cover not just commissions and bonuses, but also the average salary you’re expected to receive. This is important because you need to form a complete picture of each role.
Only this way can you hone in on the right one for you.
A real estate agent is someone who works in the real estate market. Although this can take on many forms: houses versus business premises, for example. Realtors are often different from many salespeople because they can represent the buyer, seller, or even both.
As you’ll see below, the base salary for this role is good (but not great). The upside is that the commission structure in real estate is often amongst the best—regardless of experience or location.
It’s a competitive landscape, though, and many markets are saturated.
Here’s an overview of what you can expect to earn in real estate:
An advertising sales executive is someone that sells various advertising and marketing products. This can take on many forms, including traditional, online, and other services such as sponsorships and endorsements.
In this role, you need to form strong relationships with various businesses, constantly pitching relevant spots to get their brand in front of their audience.
It’s a well-established industry, which means there’s a lower base salary on offer.
Although you can more than make up for this with competitive commissions, as you can see:
An insurance sales agent is another role that can take on several forms. Depending on the industry you’re in, it can lead you to sell various products to various businesses.
It’s a well-established marketplace, leading to a lower base salary (although still with competitive bonuses and commissions, as you can see below).
The good news about this is it’s a stable market.
Insurance is something everyone needs, so there’s always a demand for a rep like you.
Sales engineers are different from many other reps as they’re a hybrid between sales, engineering, science, and technology. Often, a company hires you to sell complex technologies/machines—although the scope of this is wide.
The main caveat of this is that you need a truly in-depth understanding of your niche, and what you sell.
Not just sales skills, either, but the inner workings of your product—technical specifications and all. For this reason, you can expect a high base salary with competitive bonuses and commissions.
Wholesale and manufacturing sales representatives usually sell products for wholesalers to larger businesses, organizations, and even government agencies. These products can take on many forms, meaning it’s hard to get too specific on what you can earn.
It really does depend on the marketplace. Although if you find the right one, you can do well for yourself.
As you can see, the average salary and commission/bonuses are competitive. Not amongst the highest, but again, this does depend on the industry you find yourself in.
We started this article by asking: what are the top sales jobs?
Now you know… kind of—although nobody can ever truly answer that for you.
You need to appreciate how trends and markets change. New industries are established all the time. Others lose popularity. Some grow saturated. Others boom.
This is why the main point of this article is to encourage you to master your craft.
Instead of focussing on trends and quick fixes, lay the foundations for a truly successful career.
Here are some additional resources to help you do that:
